Get as much support as you can from family, friends and work colleagues. Let them know you are planning to quit, and ask smokers not to smoke around you or offer you cigarettes. Quitting with a friend can also be an excellent idea — you can share your feelings and encourage each other.

The mission of the Office of Epidemiology and Health Promotion (OEHP) is to ensure healthier communities across West Virginia through promoting healthier lifestyles, managing health information, and decreasing disease, injury, disability, and premature death.

The West Virginia University Prevention Research Center, established in 1994, is one of 33 PRCs established by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. The mission of the WVU Prevention Research Center is to collaborate with partners to foster, conduct, and translate prevention research into effective and culturally-competent prevention strategies. OEHP has a longstanding collaborative relationship with the Prevention Research Center especially, in the areas of program evaluation, tobacco prevention, and obesity.
